Keeping Records for Credit Repair

Author: Darell Mckissick

If you want to win the credit repair war you must be able to keep good records. From the very beginning you must keep copies of every letter, postage receipts, etc.

Credit bureaus and collection agencies, in fact, are nothing more than record keepers. You need to beat them at their own game.

Everybody is different and will come up with their own credit repair filing system. But there are some suggestions that may help.

1) Keep separate files for each credit bureau and each account on your report that you will be disputing.

2) File items by date so you can easily establish the timeline of events.

3) Staple the mail receipt for each letter to the letter itself. Also staple the delivery verification (as printed off the USPS website) to the letter.

4) Add any new records immediately. Don't set them on the side until later. Just one lost mail receipt could cause you trouble against a pushy collection agency.

5) Immediately print out and file any emails you receive for online disputes. Copy yourself on any replies you make, and print these out as well.

Credit repair takes good record keeping. Set up your file system before you even start. You can adjust it as you go until you find what works best for you.

With a good file system you can save yourself a lot of time looking for things and ensure that anything you need will always be within reach.
